William Clegg is the lyricist of “Let Earth’s Inhabitants Rejoice (#53), which was included in the 1985 Hymns of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He wrote the words to “Haste, Glorious Day When Christ Shall Come,” “To Him Who Reigns on High,” “Ye Differing, Jarring Sects Attend” that were also published by the Church.

Clegg was born on May 2, 1823, in England. He and his wife, Sarah, and three children sailed to America in 1863. Their fourth child was born in Wyoming on the way to Utah. He died on March 30, 1903. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
