Amy Eileen Anderson Wright was sustained as second counselor in the Primary general presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. On April 2, 2022, she was released and then sustained as first counselor, both effective August 1, 2022.
The Primary presidency oversees the Church’s organization that teaches children ages 18 months to 11 years the gospel of Jesus Christ and helps them live its principles. These leaders serve under the direction of the First Presidency and travel frequently to help guide and support the children and their local leaders.
Sister Wright had been serving on the Young Women general advisory council since 2018. She has also served previously as stake Primary president, ward Primary president, a counselor in a ward Primary presidency, gospel doctrine teacher, and a Cub Scout leader.
She was born in January 1972 in Salt Lake City. She has a received a bachelor’s degree in human development and family studies from the University of Utah. She worked in the student media department in the College of Communication at Marquette University in Wisconsin while her husband attended dental school. She also worked at Marquette University in the Diederich College of Communications, where she helped facilitate an urban journalism camp for inner-city youth.
She and her husband, James, have three sons. She is a survivor of stage 4 ovarian cancer.
