Schwitzer was born on April 2, 1948, in Ogden, Utah. He earned his bachelor’s degree in biology and his MD degree from the University of Utah. He completed his residency and internship at William Beaumont Army Hospital and Fitzsimon’s Army Medical Center, concurrently serving in the U.S. Army Medical Corps.
