John Longden was a General Authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was sustained as an Assistant to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles on October 6, 1951, and served until his death on August 30, 1969.

Longden was born on November 4, 1898, in Oldham Lancashire, England. His parents moved the family to the United States in 1909. He served as a missionary in the Central States Mission from 1921 to 1924. During World War II, he served as one of the assistant servicemen coordinators on the Servicemen’s Committee of the Church of Jesus Christ and served under Hugh B. Brown. His wife, Frances Larue Carr, served from 1948 to 1961 as a counselor in the general presidency of the Young Women’s Mutual Improvement Association. They were the parents of three children. Their daughter Sharon Longden married Elder Loren C. Dunn.

He received a degree from the University of Utah and worked in management of the Westinghouse Electric Supply Company.
