In his closing remarks at the 193rd Annual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, President Russell M. Nelson announced plans to construct a temple in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The Jakarta Indonesia Temple will be the first temple in Indonesia. Jakarta is the country’s capital and largest city. It is on the northwest coast of Java, the most populous island in the world, with over 13 million people. The first missionaries arrived in Indonesia in 1970 and organized the first congregation one month later. Today, more than 7,500 Latter-day Saints in nearly 25 congregations live in Indonesia.[1]
