R. Conrad Schultz

R. Conrad Schultz is a former General Authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the Second Quorum of the Seventy from 2001 to 2007. He then served as president of the Portland Oregon Temple until 2010.

Schultz was born on March 11, 1938, in North Bend, Oregon. He was not a member of the Church until high school. He was invited to play basketball on a ward team, which he accepted. The team played in an All-Church tournament in Salt Lake City, where he had the opportunity to attend a banquet where Joseph Fielding Smith was the featured speaker. After he returned home, Schultz contacted the missionaries and was baptized in January 1956. He attended Brigham Young University for two semesters before serving a full-time mission in the Gulf States Mission. He earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Oregon. He also earned a juris doctorate degree from that university and practiced law. He opened his own law firm in 1988. He retired in 1999 when he was called to preside over the Colorado Denver South Mission. He has served as a stake president, counselor to a mission president, stake high councilor, and bishop.

He and his wife, Carolyn, are the parents of five children.
