Eternal Perspective
Perspective is simply defined as a mental view or the capacity to view things in their true relations or relative importance.[1] To view one’s earth life from an eternal perspective is to see “the bigger picture” or to see your life based upon where you once were and your long-term future. Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints use the term eternal perspective as the ability to look beyond the here and now and to see life’s experiences in terms of premortal, mortal, and post-mortal life.
Jean B. Bingham, Relief Society general president, said, that “the one viewpoint that makes everything clear is the perfect and all-encompassing perspective of Heavenly Father—His eternal perspective. ‘With His ability to see and know and understand all things past, present, and future in a higher and broader and deeper way than we possibly can, His perspective is complete,’ she said. From His vantage point, God can see divine potential rather than just a present or past condition.”[2]
