W. Jay Eldredge Jr.

Walter Joshua “Jay” Eldredge Jr. was a leader in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as the thirteenth general superintendent of the Young Men’s Mutual Improvement Association (1969-1972) and as mission president in the eastern United States (Eastern States Mission). He also served at one time as a stake president.

He was founder and president of Eldredge Furniture Company. He remodeled the theater that would become the Promised Valley Playhouse, rebuilt the Brighton Latter-day Saint Girls Camp, built the Brighton Latter-day Saint chapel, and renovated an old brownstone in New York City to house a Spanish-speaking branch. Prior to starting his business, he worked with his father and brother at Utah Idaho School Supply Company.

He and his wife, Marjorie, were the parents of five children. He was born on April 27, 1913, and passed away on his birthday in 2002.
