Bob Welti
Bob Welti was a well-known television weatherman in the Salt Lake City market from 1965 to 1991.
Welti was born on April 28, 1925, in Ithaca, new York. Soon after his birth, his family moved to Logan, Utah. At age 18, Welti joined the U.S. Navy and trained to be a fighter pilot during World War II. After the service he studied at Utah State University. He left law school to get into television. His first job was as a volunteer sweeping floors at W-6XIS in Salt Lake City. He landed the position as weatherman and was part of the number one broadcast team of Nourse, Welti, and James (Nourse was the anchor and James was the sportscaster).
On the side, he formed a successful advertising company, Welti and Call, with Will Call. He was often asked to emcee at various events. He served in his community on the board of directors for the Utah Pilot Association and the Utah Opera Board. He and his wife ministered to the men housed at the Utah State Prison.
Welti loved to fly and owned several airplanes. He was able to fly until he was 80 years old.
He married Georgia Fullmer in 1948 in the Manti Temple. They were the parents of five daughters. After her passing, he married Winifred Garrigues.
Welti died on June 4, 2019. His obituary read: “Bob was a man who thoroughly enjoyed life and always saw it as mostly sunny.”[1]
