In A.D. 34, when Jesus Christ was visiting the Nephites on the American continent he called Twelve Nephite disciple; Mathoni being the fourth he named in 3 Nephi 19:4. In order they appear as follows:
1. Nephi
2. Timothy
3. Jonas
4. Mathoni
5. Mathonihah
6. Kumen
7. Kumenonhi
8. Jeremiah
9. Shemnon
10. Jonas
11. Zedekiah
12. Isaiah
