Produced by Brigham Young University's media lab in 2010, students' take off on two Old Spice television ads has gone viral on YouTube.com with nearly two million hits. As of 2019, the number was 3.5 million.
Creators of the New Spice video had the goal to promote BYU's Harold B. Lee library and studying hard, in general. The video stars then-psychology major Stephen Jones, who bears a resemblance to Isaiah Mustafa, who appears in the Old Spice ads. Jones was then president of the BYU comedy group called Humor U and a senior at BYU.
Students Mike Hill and Christopher Garcia hatched the idea for the minute-long video.
