Wayne S. Peterson was sustained as a member of the Second Quorum of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a General Authority from 2001 to 2007. He then served as president of the Nauvoo Temple from 2007 to 2010.

Peterson served a full-time mission to Australia as a young man. He has served as a bishop, high councilor, stake president, and Regional Representative. He presided over the California Oakland Mission from 1985 to 1988 and served as an Area Authority from 1995 to 2001.

He was born on October 6, 1939, in Ogden, Utah. He earned his bachelor’s degree in finance and his Master of Business Administration degree from Utah State University. He has been self-employed as a real estate developer and owner of Homeland Properties. He held executive positions with Consolidated Capital Corporation. He was with Peterson Brothers Herefords for six years.

Peterson and his wife, Joan, are the parents of six children.
