Samuel Williams was an early member of the church mentioned in the [[Book of Mormon]]. He was born March 22, 1789 in Russell, Massachusetts. Williams was living in Kirtland when the saints began to arrive. He converted to the church and followed a group to Missouri. His time there was brief, as he was force to flee the state on account of the religious persecution. He lived in Nauvoo and there was called to be a counselor to [[John Hicks]] in the Nauvoo [[Elder|Elder's Quorom Presidency]][http://scriptures.lds.org/en/dc/124/137] When Hicks later apostasized from the church, Samuel filled his place as Elder's quorom president.
