The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints owns and maintains a number of historic sites that are fun and educational to visit. Many are described in articles on this wiki.

California

Illinois

  • Carthage Jail in Illinois where Joseph Smith and Hyrum Smith were martyred.
  • Historic Nauvoo — the "city beautiful" built by the Latter-day Saints after they were driven from Missouri and before they migrated to Utah. [1]

New York Historic Sites

Ohio Historic Sites

  • Kirtland, Ohio, the first gathering place of the Latter-day Saints, and where they built their first temple.
  • Johnson Home — in Hiram, Ohio, where Joseph and Emma Smith lived for one year and where he received 16 revelations.

Missouri Historic Sites

  • Adam-ondi-Ahman — located in Daviess County, 70 miles northeast of Independence, Missouri. This is where Adam and Eve first dwelt when they left the Garden of Eden. Three years before his death, Adam called his posterity together, blessed them, and the Lord appeared unto them. It is also "the place where Adam shall come to visit his people, or the Ancient of Days shall sit, as spoken of by Daniel the prophet.”[2]
  • Liberty Jail Historic Site where Joseph Smith and others were imprisoned.
  • Far West Temple Site
  • Hawn's Mill Site
  • Independence, Missouri, Visitors' Center

Pennsylvania Historic Sites

  • Priesthood Restoration Site in Oakland Township, Pennsylvania — where most of the Book of Mormon was translated; John the Baptist appeared to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery in a nearby forest and restored the Aaronic Priesthood to the earth; Joseph and Oliver baptized each other in the Susquehanna River.
