On October 2, 2022, President Russell M. Nelson announced plans to construct a temple in Ribeirão Prêto, Brazil. The temple is the 18th announced temple for Brazil.[1]
The Ribeirão Prêto Brazil Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be located in the São Paulo state of southeast Brazil. There are nearly 1.5 million Latter-day Saints in Brazil in more than 2,170 congregations.[2]
Location
The Ribeirão Prêto Brazil Temple is currently in the planning stages. The Ribeirão Prêto Brazil Temple will be built at Av. Antonio Marcal and R. Jose Brandani in Ribeirão Prêto, Brazil. Plans call for a single-story temple of approximately 32,000 square feet.
Groundbreaking
Groundbreaking services for the Ribeirão Prêto Brazil Temple were held on June 22, 2024. Elder Joni L. Koch, Brazil Area President, presided and offered the dedicatory prayer.
Elder Koch was born in Joinville, Santa Catarina, Brazil. He later served a full-time mission in the Brazil São Paulo North Mission. He was sustained as a General Authority Seventy in April 2017.
