The Ogden Tabernacle is situated on Ogden Temple Square adjacent to the Ogden Utah Temple. The Weber Stake Tabernacle, later known as the Ogden Pioneer Tabernacle was razed in 1971 for landscaping around the temple. The Ogden Tabernacle, was dedicated in 1956.
Ground was broken for the Ogden Tabernacle in 1953, and the ediface was built for multi-congregational use. Architect Fred L. Markham created a modern building with Mayan Revival details. The original tabernacle had a dramatic spire, which was removed during the building of the new Ogden Temple (2010-14) so that it would not compete with the spire of the temple.
In 2010, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced that the Ogden Utah Temple, nearly 40 years old, would be remodeled and the exterior would be architecturally changed. The 58-year-old Ogden Tabernacle was remodeled at the same time the Ogden Temple was built, and both were rededicated by President Thomas S. Monson in September 2014.
