On 13 December 2008 [[The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints]] announced that it will build a temple in Trujillo, Peru.  This will be the second temple in Peru.  Saints from all over the country have been attending the Lima, Peru Mormon temple, and those from the Trujillo area have been traveling by bus for 9-10 hours in order to do so.  Often they would have to patiently wait for hours before there was room in the temple for them.

There is already a stake center on the building site, so the temple will be next door.  The new temple will serve 88,000 Mormons who live in the region.
