He has served in the Church as a full-time missionary in the West Mexican Mission, bishop, Gospel Doctrine teacher, Young Men president, and counselor in a stake presidency. He presided over the Ecuador Guayaquil North Mission from 1991–1994.

Johnson was born on December 15, 1946, in Colonia Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico. He earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting and business management from Brigham Young University and owned his own business. He was also employed as an executive by several international companies and worked in various management positions for a Church-affiliated business.
