George Goddard served as the first assistant to George Q. Cannon who served as the first superintendent of the Deseret Sunday School Union of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served from 1872 until his death in 1899. He printed the first several thousand Article of Faith cards for the Sunday School in 1878.

He also served as the clerk to Presiding Bishop Edward Hunter. He was a member of the Temple Square and a patriarch.

Goddard was born on December 15, 1815, in Leicester, England, and converted to the Church in January 1851.

Goddard has two wives and eleven children. He died on January 12, 1899.
