Alan K. Parrish is an emeritus professor of religious education at Brigham Young University. He joined the faculty in 1984. From 1978 to 1984 he was director of the Latter-day Saint Institute of Religion in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Parrish was born and raised in Logan, Utah. After his mission to the Southwest British Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he earned his bachelor’s degree and MBA from Utah State University. He was in business before he was recruited by the Church Educational System. He began as a Seminary teacher then taught institute adjacent to UCLA. While there, he received his EdD degree from the University of Southern California.

He has published articles and books related to American education. He is the author of John A. Widtsoe: A Biography.

He and his wife, Marcia, are the parents of three children.
