President Russell M. Nelson announced plans to construct the Viña del Mar Chile Temple at the October 2023 General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Viña del Mar is the fourth-largest city in Chile with around 300,000 residents. It is part of the Valparaíso metropolitan area on the central coast of Chile. It will be the first temple in the region of Valparaíso and the fifth in the country. The first temple in Spanish-speaking South America was dedicated in Santiago in 1983. The other three temples in the country at the time of the announcement were in Antofagasta, Concepción, and Santiago West. A temple to be built in Puerto Montt was announced by President Russell M.
