The Cusco Peru Temple will be the fifth temple in Peru. The country is home to approximately 630,000 Latter-day Saints spread throughout more than 775 congregations. Cusco is in the southeastern part of the country and was the capital of the Inca Empire. Cusco serves as a gateway to Machu Picchu and other archaeological sites in the region. The first missionaries arrived in the country in 1956. More than 32 million people live in Peru.[2]
Location
The Cusco Peru Temple is currently in the planning stages. On January 29, 2024, the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has released site locations for the Cusco Peru and Iquitos Peru temples. The two houses of the Lord will welcome Latter-day Saints in two diversely different locations in Peru — one high in the Andes Mountains and the other on the banks of the Amazon River.[3]
Planned as a temple of 9,950 square feet, the Cusco Peru Temple will sit on a 2.48-acre site at Avenida Arcopata 452, Cusco, Cusco, Peru.
