In his closing remarks at the 193rd Annual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, President Russell M. Nelson announced plans to construct a temple in San Jose, California.
The San Jose California Temple will be the 11th temple built in the state. San Jose, the third-largest city in California, is located south of the San Francisco Bay area. It is part of Silicon Valley, a major technology hub. California, situated on the West Coast of the United States, has nearly 730,000 Latter-day Saints in around 1,100 congregations.[1]
The first Latter-day Saint immigrants arrived in San Francisco in 1846. Six Latter-day Saints were at Sutter's Mill in January 1848, when gold was discovered. The land boom of the 1920s also attracted many members to California.
