April 6th is an important date in Mormon History. The significance of the date lies in the fact that Joseph Smith revealed April 6th to be the actual date of Christ's birth. December 25th was labeled as Christ's birthday sometime around the third century, partly because it marked the winter solstice on the Roman Calendar.
April 6th in Church History
- 1830 - The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is officially organized by Joseph Smith in the Peter Whitmer home
- 1877 - The St. George Utah Temple is dedicated. It is the first temple the Saints built in Utah and the first to remain in continuous operation.
- 1893 - The Salt Lake Temple is dedicated. It is the most well-known of Mormon Temples and has become a symbol of the Church.
- 2000 - The Palmyra New York Temple is dedicated.
