The Church Office Building is a 28-story building in Salt Lake City, Utah, that serves as the offices for many of the churches leaders. While the general authorities of the church work out of the Church Administration Building, most other church organizations are centered across the plaza in the the building. The building is 420 ft (128 m) tall and is located near Temple Square on the corner of North Temple and State Street. It is the second-tallest building in the city after the Wells Fargo Center, but appears taller because it stands at a higher elevation.
History and Features
The building was designed by George Cannon Young and cost $31 million to build. Construction took place from 1962 to 1972. Its two observation decks on the 26th floor are open to the public for free and offer a stunning view of Antelope Island and the Great Salt Lake to the northwest, the Wasatch Mountains to the north and east, the skyline of the city to the south, and Temple Square to the immediate west.
