Gerry Avant is an award-winning journalist and retired editor of the LDS Church News. She is a native of Uvalda, Georgia and earned her associate’s degree from Brewton Parker College. She then earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Brigham Young University where she also pursued post-graduate studies.
