G. Carlos Smith Jr. served as the eleventh general superintendent of the Young Men’s Improvement Association of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1962 to 1969. Previous to this call, he served as first assistant to Joseph T. Bentley, the general superintendent of the YMMIA.
Smith presided over the Southeast Asia Mission of the Church and the Central States Mission. He also served as stake president twice.
Smith was a grandson of Church president Joseph F. Smith. He and his wife, Lavon, were the parents of five children. He was born on August 23, 1910, and passed away on March 29, 1987.
