Richard Crockett Edgley is a General Authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, called as the First Counselor in the Presiding Bishopric on December 27, 1995. He has been a General Authority since 1992, when he was called to be Second Counselor to then Presiding Bishop Robert D. Hales. In 1994, when Merrill J. Bateman replaced Elder Hales as presiding bishop, Edgley was again called to serve as Second Counselor. When former first counselor H. David Burton was made presiding bishop in 1995, Edgley was called as First Counselor. [1] He was designated emeritus status on March 31, 2012.

Prior to his call as a General Authority, Edgley was a vice president of General Mills and a managing director of the Finance and Records Department of the Church. He has a bachelor's degree in political science from Brigham Young University and a master's degree in business administration from Indiana University. As a young man, he served as a Missionary in the eastern United States and has been a local bishop and a stake president in the Church.


Edgley was born on February 6, 1936, to Phenoi and Ona Crockett Edgley in Preston, Idaho. He is married to the former Pauline Nielson, with whom he has six children.
