President Russell M. Nelson announced plans to construct the Kahului Hawaii Temple at the October 2023 General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Kahului is located about 25 miles east of Lahaina, where a devastating wildfire consumed communities and took dozens of lives in August 2023. The Church has provided substantial aid in support of relief efforts.
