One of the many names of Jesus Christ, Son of Righteousness is a term reference in Isaiah, 2 Nephi (26:9)3 Nephi (25:2), and the Book of Ether (9:22). The term is used to put emphasis on Christ as the source of all righteousness. Specifically, the passages use the reference to encourage others to seek forgiveness through Christ, but also to seek him through prayer to help us to overcome sin with his help.
