On 4 October 2008 The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced that it would build a temple in Córdoba, Argentina. The temple will be built on the grounds of the Villa Belgrano meetinghouse, next to the recently rebuilt Argentina Córdoba Mission home, in Villa Belgrano (LDS Newsroom, 7 Oct. 2008).

Members in the northern areas of Argentina have had to travel some 400 miles to reach the one existing Argentina temple in Buenos Aires. The first members of the Church in Argentina were European immigrants who requested missionaries in the 1920's. The Church has grown steadily in Argentina over the years. There are now over 350,000 members in Argentina.
