Stephanie Kelly Clark is an artist who set aside her painting in oils to create in embroidery floss.
She was born in Portland, Oregon, and grew up in Urbana, Missouri. She began her artistic education at Dixie State College and then earned her bachelor’s degree in painting and drawing at the University of Utah. She then discovered and cultivated her passion for working with embroidery and thread drawings, which is drawing with her sewing machine. Most of her work now consists of fiber art, mixing paint and thread embroidery. She says that her “background in painting has allowed [her] to explore the material using techniques from the worlds of drawing and painting” and her work “blurs the lines between fine art and craft.”[1]
Clark and her husband, sculptor/artist Robin Clark, and two children live in Salt Lake City, Utah. She is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
