Robert A. McKay is a figure and landscape artist. He was raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, and learned plein air painting during high school. He studied under Glen Edwards and Tony Rasmussen at Utah State University and then received his Bachelor of Fine Art degree in illustration from Brigham Young University where Robert Barrett and Richard Hull mentored him. He earned a master’s degree in studio art through Marywood University in Pennsylvania in conjunction with Parsons School of Design and School of Visual Arts in New York. Artist Paul Mann apprenticed him and he also attended figure and landscape workshops with other noted artists.

McKay holds a teaching degree in visual art and Spanish and has taught both in the public school system. He has taught at the University of Utah, BYU, and Salt Lake Community College, and has taught workshops.

He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
