Penelope Moody Allen is the author of the texts to “Let the Holy Spirit Guide” (#143) and “With Songs of Praise” (#71), both in the 1985 Hymns of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She has also written other songs, poems, articles, two novels, and a cantata. She has collaborated with Michael F. Moody.
Penny was born and raised in California in 1939. She earned her bachelor’s degree from San Jose State and her master’s from Brigham Young University. She has taught at BYU and the BYU Salt Lake Center.
She married Gary Lee Allen in 1963 in the Manti Utah Temple and they had four children. She is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
