H. Donl Peterson was a religion professor at Brigham Young University. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Peterson received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at BYU and his doctorate degree at Washington State University. Before he joined the faculty at BYU, he taught Seminary in Globe, Arizona, and Murray, Utah. He then was Institute director at Dixie College and Washington State University.

He served on Church writing committees for four Gospel Doctrine manuals. He also wrote many articles and authored The Story of the Book of Abraham: Mummies, Manuscripts, and Mormonism; Moroni: Ancient Prophet, Modern Messenger; The Pearl of Great Price: A History and Commentary; and edited (with Charles D. Tate Jr.) Pearl of Great Price: Revelations from God.

Peterson was born on February 17, 1930, and died on March 21, 1994, of cancer. He and his wife, Mary Lou, were the parents of six children. She died in 2013.
