Alena Ellsworth has been an elite runner for Brigham Young University from 2018 to 2022. In March 2021, she ran in the distance medley relay race in the 2021 Indoor Track and Field Championships and she and her teammates won the event. Her sister, Lauren Ellsworth-Barnes was part of the team. Each athlete secured All-American honors.

Associate head coach Diljeet Taylor invited Alena to run for BYU. Alena chose the 800m so she could run with her sister. “I just get so much more energy from Lauren,” Alena said. “She pushes me in my strengths, and I push her in her strengths, and we are both getting better together.”[1]

In high school, Alena was a varsity runner and state contender in the 400-meter and 800-meter events since she was a freshman.

She is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
