Shaka Kariuki is an investment banker. He is a partner and co-chief investment officer at Kuramo Capital Management in New York City. For six years he was chairman and board member of Deseret First Credit Union. For just short of 11 years, he was portfolio manager for Deseret Mutual Benefit Administrators. He is a member of the Marriott School of Management Advisory Board.
He is a native of Kenya and served as a missionary in Oakland, California, for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Kariuki was honored as the 2013 Distinguished Alumnus at LDS Business College. He earned his BSc degree in economics and his MBA in finance from Brigham Young University. He holds a master’s degree in government from Harvard University.
He tells students to have a clear goal in mind, and to find ways to work toward that vision. “In life you never give up,” Kariuki said. “Always follow up and always be persistent because if you have a passion for something, it usually pans out.”[1]
