Kenneth R. Mays is a retired instructor in the Church Educational System in the Department of Seminaries and Institutes.
After earning degrees in organizational communication from the University of Utah and Brigham Young University, he worked for Procter & Gamble in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and taught early morning seminary. In addition to teaching seminary full time, he was a seminary principal, CES coordinator, instructional designer, and institute teacher. He concluded his career at the Salt Lake University Institute adjacent to the University of Utah and LDS Business College.
Mays has traveled to numerous Book of Mormon and Church History sites and taken numerous photographs of the sites. His historical images grace dozens of magazines, journals, books, and DVDs.
He has also acted as a tour guide to Church sites for private companies. He is on the board of trustees of the Ensign Peak Foundation and serves as secretary. Mays has taught at BYU Education Week and has presented at various symposia, including the Association of Mormon Letters and the 2008 symposium on the life of President John Taylor. For ten years Kenny authored the “Picturing History” feature in the Mormon Times section of the Deseret News, providing images of and commentary about Church historic sites. Many of his images can be found at catalog.churchofjesuschrist.org.
