The cultural hall is a large multi-purpose room in the center of a Church meetinghouse, often including a basketball court (some made from hardwood) and a stage. Some smaller buildings omit the stage, or may only have a half-court basketball court, due to space and design considerations. Cultural halls are often where activities take place which are not appropriate for a chapel, (such as sports, ward parties, etc.) Cultural halls also can double extra classroom space or as overflow seating, in many cases, for larger church meetings such as Stake Conference.
The cultural hall is situated in the back of the chapel, and a divider or movable partitions can be opened between the chapel and cultural hall. The serving area for food is often adjacent to the cultural hall.
