On April 3, 2022, President Russell M. Nelson announced plans to construct the Modesto California Temple.
Modesto (Spanish for modest) is known for its rich agricultural history. This will be the 10th temple in California. This city in the Central Valley is the county seat and largest city of Stanislaus County. California has about 735,000 Latter-day Saints in over 1,180 congregations. Other temples in the state are the Feather River, Fresno, Los Angeles, Newport Beach, Oakland, Redlands, Sacramento, San Diego, and Yorba Linda temples.[1] Temples were announced for Bakersfield and San Jose by President Nelson in the April 2023 general conference.
Location
The Modesto California Temple is currently in the planning stages. On October 10, 2022, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced that the temple will be located at 4300 Dale Road in Modesto, on a 17.63-acre site next to an existing meetinghouse.
Groundbreaking
Groundbreaking services will be held for the Modesto California Temple on Saturday, October 7, 2023. Elder Gary B. Sabin, General Authority Seventy and First Counselor in the North America West Area Presidency, will preside and offer the dedicatory prayer.
