Michael Malm is an artist and painter of primarily landscapes and figure paintings. He studied under Del Parson at Dixie College (now Utah Tech University) and earned his associate’s degree. He earned his bachelor’s degree at Southern Utah University and then studied under Glen Edwards and earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from Utah State University. Through many workshops, he has studied under master painters such as Richard Schmid, Burton Silverman, Daniel Gerhartz, Quang Ho, Ron Hicks, Michael Workman, and Jim Norton.
Malm was born in 1972 in Salt Lake City. He and his wife, Juanita, live in Cache Valley, Utah and are the parents of four children. He loves rural Utah and often paints old farm communities with grazing animals and wide-open fields. He also paints figures, primarily women, in western landscapes.
Malm has also painted a number of religious paintings for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, of which he is a member. He is the artist of the mural “Come Unto Jesus,” which spans a second-floor wall of the Conference Center in Salt Lake City. A smaller version of this mural hangs in the Orem Utah Temple. He also contributed to paintings at the Sacred Grove Welcome Center with artist Linda Curley Christensen.[1] Christensen and Malm previously worked together on pieces for the Priesthood Restoration Site in Harmony, Pennsylvania.
Among his many awards, he has won several awards at the Museum of Church History and Art International Art Competitions.
