One of the things that sets the Mormon Church apart from other Christian churches is its belief in a direct line of priesthood authority. After the death of Christ's apostles, Mormons believe the priesthood, and the authority to act in God's name, was taken from the earth. In the spring of 1829, the priesthood was restored to the prophet Joseph Smith by John the Baptist and Peter, James, and John. Today, every worthy man can be ordained to the priesthood and all people everywhere are invited to partake in the blessings therein.
