Jarom
Jarom is a Nephite in the relatively early days of the history detailed in the Book of Mormon. The son of Enos, he is the sole author of the Book of Jarom.
History
Jarom kept watch over the Small Plates of Nephi that had been handed down through the generations. He is the son of Enos, and grandson of Jacob.[1] He appears to have had this responsibility between the years of 399 and 361 B.C.[2] Relatively little is known about Jarom's life, owing to the fact that his contributions to the Book of Mormon are small and the majority of their word count is dedicated to explaining the broad events of the Nephites and Lamanites that took place during his lifetime.
It is possible that Jarom was a prophet for the Nephites, or perhaps merely a teacher of some kind. He explains that "much should be done among this people, because of the hardness of their hearts." He also states that "there are many among us who have many revelations," although he never specifies whether he of himself belonged to that group. In any case, it appears likely that Jarom was among the righteous people of the Nephites, given how he speaks about themes such as faith and the Holy Spirit.[3]
Jarom lived through numerous battles between the Nephites and the Lamanites. Once again, how involved he may have been in such events is ultimately unknown.[4] Toward the end of his life, he passed the scriptural record he had kept over the years to his son Omni.[5]
