Barbara Thompson
Barbara Thompson was the second counselor to President Julie B. Beck in the general Relief Society presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was called to the position in March, 2007 and served until her release in 2012. She was the second unmarried sister to be called to the presidency (Sheri L. Dew was the first).
Sister Thompson was born on June 13, 1952, in San Louis Obispo, California, to to W. Peter and Fern Rymer Thompson. The family later moved to Granger, Utah. Barbara Thompson earned Thompson a bachelors degree in social work from Brigham Young University and later, she received a masters degree in social work from the University of Utah.
Sister Thompson served as a missionary for the Church in the Germany Hamburg Mission. She then worked for the Utah Department of Human Services for 30 years. After retiring, she served as the executive director of The Christmas Box International, an international organization that serves abused and/or neglected children. (See Richard Paul Evans.)
