Jordan Rapana, Mormon athlete

Jordan Rapana is a rugby star from New Zealand (born in Wellington on August 15, 1989) who plays professionally in Australia. He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Mormon Church. Rapana gave up professional rugby (opting out of the second year of a two-year contract with the NRL's Gold Coast Titans) to serve a two-year mission for the Church in England. He was named in the NRL's Under-20s Team of the Year and selected to play for NZ Maori against the NRL Indigenous All-Stars before departing. Immediately upon his return, at age 21, he was grabbed by the Western Force Super rugby franchise.

Rapana agreed to a code switch which reunited him with his older brother Joelin Rapana, a Force rookie who played a part in attracting him to Perth. [1]
