Albert E. Bowen
Albert Ernest Bowen was an apostle of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was born on October 31, 1875, in Henderson Creek, Idaho, a son of David Bowen and Annie Shackleton Bowen. He married Aletha E. Reeder in 1902. She died in 1906 after bearing two sons. He married Emma Lucy Gates, a granddaughter of Brigham Young, in 1916.
Bowen earned a degree at Brigham Young College, graduating with honors. He departed for a mission to Switzerland and Germany (1902-1904), and then returned to teach at the college for awhile. In 1907 he entered University of Chicago to study law, graduating in 1911. He then practiced law in Logan, Utah. Bowen served as county attorney for Cache County. While in Logan, Elder Bowen served the Church as superintendent of the Cache Stake Sunday School Board and from 1922 to 1934 as a member of the General Board of the Deseret Sunday School Union. He was called as general superintendent of the Y. M. M. I. A. in 1935 and then as an apostle in 1937.
Elder Bowen was sustained to the Twelve and then ordained an Apostle April 8, 1937 by President Heber J. Grant. He served honorably in that high and holy calling until his death July 15, 1953 at Salt Lake, City, Utah at the age of seventy-seven.
