Steven Nyman:Mormon Skier
Steven Nyman is a World Cup alpine ski racer on the U. S. Ski Team. Formerly a slalom skier, he is now a speed specialist and competes predominantly in downhill, super-G, and combined. He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Nyman was born in Provo, Utah, on February 12, 1982, to Scott and Becky Nyman. He was raised at the Sundance Ski Resort in Provo Canyon, where his father ran the ski school. He still makes his home in Sundance. He was World Junior Champion in Slalom and World Junior Silver Medalist in combined, both in 2002.
During the 2014 Sochi Olympics—Nyman’s third Olympic downhill competition—he finished 27th.
He finished 20th at the 2010 Vancouver Games and 19th at the 2006 Turin Games. In Vancouver he also raced the combined and super-G, where he finished 29th and 43rd, respectively. In December 2006 he won his first World Cup medal, placing third in downhill at Beaver, Creek, Colorado. Fifteen days later, he won his first World Cup race, a downhill in Val Gardena, Italy.
He is a four-time World Cup downhill medalist and a two-time downhill national champion.
