Gea Johnson: Mormon Athlete

Gea Johnson was part of the first-ever women's Olympic bobsleigh competition in the 2002 Winter Olympics held in Salt Lake City. Leading up to competition day, she suffered a hamstring injury prior to the Olympics that worsened during competition. Consequently, her women’s two team finished fifth.

Johnson was born on September 18, 1967, in Monticello, Utah. While at Arizona State, she became an NCAA heptathlon champion. She earned her bachelor’s degree in organizational communication, graduating summa cum laude. Johnson entered ASU with the Dial Award, which is given annually to the nation's most outstanding female scholar athlete. While at ASU she was awarded the prestigious NCAA Top Six Award for the nation's most outstanding collegiate scholar athlete. She was inducted into the ASU Sports Hall of Fame in 2007.

She took up track cycling in 2010 and is considered an Elite Track Cyclist. She is also a former weightlifter.

Johnson is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
