David M. McConkie

David M. McConkie was called as the first counselor in the Sunday School general presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and sustained in General Conference April 2009. He was released in 2014.

He was born October 13, 1948, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Beth Merrill and F. Briton McConkie. He married Joanne Albrecht in 1971 in the Salt Lake Temple. They have seven children.

Elder McConkie was serving as a stake president when he was called to serve in the Sunday School. Previous Church service includes serving as a counselor in a stake presidency, on a high council and as a bishop. He served a mission in South Africa from 1968 to 1970.

Brother McConkie is an attorney practicing law at the Salt Lake City–based law firm of Kirton and McConkie. He received a Bachelor's degree in history from the University of Utah in 1974, and his law degree from the University of Utah in 1977. He was a staff sergeant in the Utah Air National Guard from 1968-79.
