Peter M. Johnson

Peter M. Johnson is a General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is the first African American General Authority and was sustained at General Conference on April 6, 2019.

At the time of his call, he was serving as an Area Seventy and a member of the Sixth Quorum of the Seventy. He has also served as stake president, ward mission leader, stake financial clerk, ward Young Men president, bishopric counselor, and full-time missionary in the Alabama Birmingham Mission.

Johnson was born on November 29, 1966, in New York City, New York. He holds a PhD in accounting from Arizona State University and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting from Southern Utah University. At the beginning of his career he was a staff accountant for Grant Thornton CPA. He was an associate professor at Brigham Young University-Hawaii, assistant professor of accountancy at Brigham Young University, and associate professor of accountancy at the University of Alabama. He was baptized on August 16, 1986, after being introduced to the gospel at BYU-Hawaii.

He and his wife, Stephanie Lyn Chadwick, are the parents of four children.
